Minnesota United had a horror debut to the MLS after conceding 11 goals in the opening two matches.
Since then, the team’s defence has improved substantially, although they have still conceded four goals in the last two matches. A 2-0 loss against FC Dallas at the Toyota stadium might seem like yet another disappointing result, but the team can take a lot of positives from the match. After the game, defender Marc Burch claimed that Minnesota United could have prevented the two goals that the club conceded today. Such has been the improvement over the last couple of matches.
After recently being brought in from Colorado Rapids, Sam Cronin and Marc Burch may turn out to be key players for the club. It is only after their arrival that the club’s defensive form has been looking up. Javier Morales opened the scoring for Dallas in the 43rd minute before FC Dallas capitalised on the disappointing concentration levels of Minnesota United to score just four minutes into the second half through Michael Barrios.
Minnesota’s task does not get any easy, as the club will be playing against Houston Dynamo, who have been one of the top scoring outfits in the 2017 campaign, in the next match.
After this game, though, Minnesota are at home for three consecutive games.“The good news about the couple of goals we conceded is that they’re preventable. They’re pretty simple things. One of them is not staying with your guys until it’s completely cleared – something I’m a big fan of. You stay with them until it’s over. The second goal is communication – playing with some urgency and not taking chances. When you’re conceding goals, you can’t take chances. Fix those couple of things, and it looks a lot better,” said Burch. Minnesota did secure a first win of the season through a 4-2 success over Real Salt Lake.
