TOUGH START

Columbus Crew have had a tough start to the new MLS season after they have managed just one win in the opening three matches of the season. This has prompted the manager Robert Warzycha to say that the start could have been even worse or it could have been even better. In the three matches, Columbus have managed one win, one draw, and one defeat. As a result, they already find themselves five points behind the leaders Montréal Impact. Columbus Crew are the best team in the league if the second half is only considered, as they have scored the most number of goals during this period.

However, they have been extremely poor defensively, which have allowed the opposition to get back into the match. The team opened the season with a 3-0 victory over Chivas. However, they suffered a demoralising 2-1 defeat against Vancouver Whitecaps in the subsequent away match. The first home match of the season saw them draw 1-1 with San Jose earthquakes. The next match of the season will be against DC United. Robert Warzycha will be hoping that his team finds some form and consistency starting from this match. The next few weeks are going to be extremely important because they will be facing top teams like Philadelphia Union and Montréal Impact.

“We are what we are: We have one win, one draw and one loss. Obviously it could be worse, but it could be better. They have the same players. I think they’re playing only better. They are a solid team, and they have good players and do a good job of organizing,” said the coach of the team. “Right now we’re all right, but definitely I think we’ve underachieved our goal for this month,” said the midfielder Justin Meram after the match with San Jose earthquakes.
