Montreal Impact Shake Off Poor Start

Montréal Impact appeared to have finally shaken off the poor start to the campaign after they have been winning two of the last five matches. One of the reasons towards this improved form has been Jack McInerney, who once again scored in the 3-0 win over Houston Dynamo during the weekend. More importantly, the team managed to keep a clean sheet and this delighted manager Frank Klopas. He said after the match that one of the key reasons behind McInerney’s better form is his willingness to help the team in defence, while he has also improved his work rate.

McInerney made some great runs in the match according to the manager. The 21-year-old now has scored six goals in the last 10 league matches, which is the kind of form that could help Montreal Impact get away from the bottom of the table. Marco Di Vaio, who at 37 years of age is one of the experienced players in the squad, says that McInerney is going through a spell when everything he touches turns into goal. With regards to this match, the 21 year-old scored an exquisite goal. Even though he was modest about his achievements, McInerney remains aware that he could help Montréal Impact move up the table.

“I just [wanted] to make solid contact, whatever happens, it goes in,” said McInerney. “Today, he made some great runs. We didn’t see him in the first half early because he was looking to get behind, and I think there were moments where we should have looked to play a little more direct, because his movement is very good. He wants to score. That’s a striker. He might not do anything, he might not be involved in the build-up or this or that, but then – boom – one opportunity,” said the manager.

Feilhaber Becomes Major Injury Worry For Kansas City

Benny Feilhaber has become the major injury worry for Sporting Kansas City in the next few weeks after injuring his left shoulder. However, the club have been given a major relief with the news that the shoulder injury is just a sprain and the player should be okay to play in a few weeks. It is looking unlikely that he will require a surgery in order to correct the problem. Feilhaber has stated that it is not unusual for him to miss a couple of matches in a season due to injury. He has recalled how this has been troubling him for the last few seasons.

Despite the constant niggling injuries, he has not missed more than a couple of matches during the course of the season. This should be good enough for the Sporting Kansas midfield. The club are looking to top the MLS table in the Eastern conference and they are just two points below DC United at the top of the table. They have been one of the top teams so far, but they have been suffering from poor form of late. The team has managed just one win in the last five matches, which is threatening to destroy their hopes of being in the race against DC United.

“Ever since I can think, over the last four or five years, I’ve gotten one small injury a year. So I miss about three or four games a year from being injured. If this injury doesn’t keep me out for too long, maybe this is the perfect time where I’ll be able to get back and not miss too many games. I didn’t know what it was, because I’ve never injured my shoulder. But I knew something was wrong because of the pain I felt right away,” said Feilhaber.

Sanchez Reveals Injury Could Recover Before World Cup

Colorado Rapids midfielder Vicente Sanchez has revealed that he could be back in action before the World Cup begins. The 34-year-old has been missing from the first team action for the last few weeks due to a knee injury. The MLS will be taking a break for about three weeks due to the World Cup commitments. The Uruguay defender has said that he is likely to come back before the break. Sanchez has been one of the important players for the club this season after scoring five goals.

Four of those goals have been from the penalty spot, but these goals have helped the club stay in hunt for a play-off place at the end of the season. He suffered the injury while playing against LA Galaxy a few weeks ago. Back then, the club confirmed that he will miss the next two weeks of action. Rapids manager Pablo Mastroeni confirmed a few days ago that the club is working extremely hard to bring the player back before this timeframe. He, however, also maintained that has one of the older players in the squad, they also have to be cautious before pushing him to the limits.

Pablo Mastroeni says that the club do not want to lose him for two or three months by bringing him back too soon.

“It’s healing quickly. I’m hoping to be back on the field soon. I think it’s all going well,” said the midfielder. “He’s a good person to have available. Obviously a wealth of experience, and more importantly he’s a game changer, a guy that can flip the game on its head. We want to make sure that he comes back 100 percent. It’s just 11 games into the season, we don’t want him out for two more months,” said the coach about racing him back.

PETKE UNSURE

New York Red Bulls manager Mike Petke has said that he is still not sure when to release the star names like Tim Cahill for international action. Australian defender Tim Cahill will be one of the players to depart the club in order to take part in the World Cup 2014.

Australia have qualified for this tournament and will be playing up against Netherlands and Spain in the group stages. Apart from Cahill, New York Red Bulls are also likely to lose Roy Miller as well. Even during the World Cup 2014, MLS season will be going as per schedule. Continue reading “PETKE UNSURE”
