MLS Football: Real Salt Lake To Meet LAFC

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) have started their Major League Soccer campaign very well. They are only the second MLS expansion team to win their opener. They went away to defeat Seattle Sounders 1-0 following the footsteps of Chicago Fire in 1998. Funny thing is both teams were coached by Bob Bradley.

It has been a nice start but they are set to meet with Real Salt Lake. Real Salt Lake played a 1-1 draw with FC Dallas at the Toyota Stadium so they would be keen on victory in their first home game. Real Salt Lake played well with Nick Rimando impressing. Joao Plata scored in the first half but they thwarted their effort by an own goal by Marcelo Silva. IBRAHIMOVIC NOT DONE WITH MANCHESTER UNITED?

Although ties were said to be cut at the end of last season, the latest cyber theatrics between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and United’s Coach Jose Mourinho rings clearly opposite to what many believe was the Swede’s one and successful season in England.

Even before he joined the Red Devils last year’s summer just after parting ways with PSG, making the popular veteran sojourn from the high tables of European football to less competitive leagues like the Chinese Super League or the MLS was frankly what was on the mind of any ardent follower of the professional sport.

For what it’s worth though, the big Swede did have a remarkable season with the Red Devils as he topped their goal contribution chart with 28 strikes despite having his run cut short by a knee injury in April.

However, it seems neither the coach nor fans are particularly confident on the current crop of forwards’ ability to guarantee Zlatan-like records and are such have been flirting with the idea of resigning the Swede for another year – the coach through dropping press room hints for Ed Woodward while the fans, hashtags. The growth and value of the MLS continues to increase

There was a point in time when the American League, the MLS struggled to obtain profits with teams playing against each other in empty stadiums and operational costs involving the reparations of playing grounds which cost the league to lost millions of dollars during it´s few years.

The MLS has experienced a huge transformation since it´s opening years as it has gone from having 10 teams competing to an expansion of 22 and it´s attendance is regularly exceeding that of the National Hockey League (NHL) as well as the National Basketball Association (NBA)

Clubs that are competing in the MLS now have an average valuation of $180 million which is significantly more than how it used to be years ago.

Players from all corners of the globe are entering the MLS as it´s growth keeps increasing and the commissioner Don Garber has recently talked about this positive turn that the American League has been going through as Garber said:

“Many of our players are coming from places where it’s not as easy to live, and they might not have the same economic opportunities or the same educational opportunities for their families¨

Garber continued on talking about the increase in value that clubs in the MLS have sustained as they are worth around 80% more than 4 years ago. Continue reading “The growth and value of the MLS continues to increase”

Houston Dynamo’s home and away record is vastly different

During the 2016 season of the MLS, Houston Dynamo finished in the very last position of the Western Conference with 34 points collected from 34 matches.

They only managed to secure 7 triumphs and 14 draws while losing 13 games.

In this latest 2017 edition of the MLS, Houston Dynamo are doing a clearly better job as the team is currently positioned in 2nd place with 20 points from the 13 opening games that they have played so far.

Despite doing such a significantly better time, there is something that has troubled the head coach Wilmer Cabrera and it’s the fact that his team have dominated the majority of their home matches but struggled when it comes to away games.

Out of the 6 away games of this 2017 MLS season of Houston Dynamo, they have lost 5 of those games and drawn the other remaining encounter but when it comes to the home matches, it’s a totally different story with 6 victories and 1 draw from their 7 opening games that they have played in their home turf at the BBVA Compass Stadium.

Adolph DeLaGarza has been performing with Houston Dynamo since January of 2017 and when the 29 year old American defender was asked about why they have been underperforming so much in their away games, he simply did not know why it’s been happening as he said: Continue reading “Houston Dynamo’s home and away record is vastly different”

Marc Burch says Minnesota United Already Showing Defensive Improvements

Minnesota United had a horror debut to the MLS after conceding 11 goals in the opening two matches.

Since then, the team’s defence has improved substantially, although they have still conceded four goals in the last two matches. A 2-0 loss against FC Dallas at the Toyota stadium might seem like yet another disappointing result, but the team can take a lot of positives from the match. After the game, defender Marc Burch claimed that Minnesota United could have prevented the two goals that the club conceded today. Such has been the improvement over the last couple of matches.

After recently being brought in from Colorado Rapids, Sam Cronin and Marc Burch may turn out to be key players for the club. It is only after their arrival that the club’s defensive form has been looking up. Javier Morales opened the scoring for Dallas in the 43rd minute before FC Dallas capitalised on the disappointing concentration levels of Minnesota United to score just four minutes into the second half through Michael Barrios.
