STATS PREVIEW: PORTLAND TIMBERS VS ORLANDO CITY

How good does it feel to get back to winning ways? Especially when you achieve a 0-1 shutout victory over 2,500 away from home at LA Galaxy. With Orlando City SC achieving their first ever MLS win in Carson, Oscar Pareja‘s side are bouncing into their second West Coast game in just two weekends – this time at Portland Timbers.

Memories of that frustrating 1-2 home loss to FC Cincinnati have now faded. Especially considering that Facundo Torres scored his first Lions goal last Saturday. Heading home Ercan Kara‘s first Orlando City SC assist in only the ninth minute, City hung tough in the Southern California sunshine. Facing 19 LA Galaxy attempts in total, Antônio Carlos was colossal in a backs to the wall encounter.

REPORTS: JONES COULD MOVE TO THE MLS THIS SUMMER

Manchester United defender Phil Jones has joined his teammates Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata as potentially likely candidates to transfer to the United States Major League Soccer this summer, according to a lot of reports from various sources. The former England international central defender, prior to his return to the United first team, had been out of action for several months as a result of a major injury he suffered in 2020. The injury opened a path to other further injury problems and they all combined to stop him from playing football for quite a long time. However, with the help of Olé Gunnar Solksjaer and the United team of doctors, he was brought back to full fitness and was re-instated into the first-team as a result.

Of course, since then, he has not done enough to displace Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane in the starting eleven whenever they are fit, but he has always done a lot to remain on standby just in case his services are called upon. His return from injury and to football action has earned him some suitors who have shown interest in acquiring his services as early as in the summer transfer window. It was earlier reported that some clubs in the English Premier League and in the Championship had started showing interest in signing him but the reports stated that those clubs were waiting for the summer transfer window to open proper for business.

UNITED FINDING IT DIFFICULT TO OFFLOAD WANTAWAY DEFENDER

Manchester United are currently finding it very hard to seal a departure for wantaway defender Phil Jones this summer and it has a direct effect on their summer transfer business as well. The former England international defender has been frozen out of the team since a long time ago and has not made an appearance for the team in over a year now. Although part of the reason for his absence from the team is due to a long-term injury he suffered during the last match he played for the Red Devils, he is also expected to find it very challenging to find his way back into the starting XI even if he returned to full fitness.

Jones has somehow managed to survive being sold by United and is currently under the management of a fourth manager at United since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. He has survived as many as three managers and has also remained at the club even though there have been as many as sixteen different transfer windows since the Red Devils appointed David Moyes as Sir Alex Ferguson’s replacement back in 2014. After Moyes, he has played under Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho but has still managed to be at the club even under current manager Olé Gunnar Solksjaer.
